SM announced on Jan. 19th that Jonghyun’s 2nd album “Poet | Artist” will be released posthumously on Jan. 24th, 2018. The comes following his final concert series “Inspired” held this past December 9-10. The album photoshoot and title song MV were shot/recorded prior to the events on Jan. 18th and are expected to be released as originally intended with this album. According to SM (trans), proceeds from this album will be given to Jonghyun’s mother to help found a charity for those who are in a “difficult environment” (assumed similar situation to Jonghyun). SM released 2 music videos for this album – the title track “Shinin” and ballad “Before Our Spring”.
This album will be Jonghyun’s 2nd full length album (excluding his “Story Op.” compilation albums) and like his other albums will include songs penned and composed by himself. Upon the announcement of the album, fans realized that the album title was the same as the tattoo he had on the back of his neck (he had a tattoo for each of his albums). At his “Inspired” concert, 5 new songs from the album were performed/previewed: 환상통 (Only One You Need), Waffle (#Hashtag) [in a VCR], Sightseeing, 어떤 기분이 들까 (I’m So Curious), & Take The Dive (테이크 더 다이브). Rewind was used as a VCR song in his “Agit: The Letter” concert.

About 환상통 [lit. Phantom Pain] (Only One You Need) from “INSPIRED” (source)
“Do you know what Phantom Pain is? The lyrics are about something that was with me but then disappeared and keeps hurting me. So I went looking for it. I wrote about you who was with me but disappeared and because I was hurting so much I came to find you.” ~ Jonghyun, 12/9/17
” ‘I came til here looking for you because the one thing that was the most precious to me was you’ is the meaning of the lyrics. ‘You need me and I need you too,’ is what this song is trying to tell.” ~ Jonghyun, 12/10/17
Jonghyun’s “Shinin'” MV is the fastest SHINee MV to break 1 mil views (within less than 5 hours of release) and broke 3 mil in its first day (almost 4 mil). It’s also the first SHINee MV to reach 1 million likes on YouTube.
(Please do remember that by buying the album from a Hanteo shop, you can help Jonghyun win on weekly music shows even if the artist doesn’t perform~!)
PHYSICAL (IN NO PREFERENCE ORDER – ALL OF THESE STORES SHOULD COUNT TOWARD HANTEO/GAON*)
*If you find evidence that contradicts this, please let us know via our contact form so we can update~! ^^
Preface: Everyone has different experiences with each of these sellers that causes them to prefer one over the other. There’s honestly no perfect store in terms of expense, shipping time, packing quality, etc. So my suggestion is if you’re a first time buyer, to just try out each of these and see which one you’re happiest with. If you are interested in buying a SHINee album released a year or more prior (not the current album during the first month of sales), I highly suggest using a local US store like Music Plaza or Choice Music (see below). Why? It’s faster and the same cost. All albums so long as they’re not bootleg count on Gaon charts. ^^ We don’t recommend it for sales during promotions because we’ve been told by the store managers/owners that it doesn’t count on Hanteo (needed for weekly music shows).
Ktown4u [ships from Korea]
Yesasia [ships from Hong Kong, slower: Korea > Hong Kong > US]
Aladin US [Guide] [fastest, but website is all in Korean]
Synnara [only ships with EMS ($$)]
USA Local (As of right now, all the US local stores we know of do NOT count on Korean charts. If your store counts toward Korean charts, let us know~! ^^ )
Week 1: 51k (solo career high)
Gaon Sales (published monthly)
Week 1: Rank #1
[Korean Streaming Admin Note] I have seen talks between international and Korean fans suggesting that Korean digital streaming services no longer support international streaming due to blocked international IP addresses. And it’s not certain that VPNs will help either (on the American side, Billboard says they don’t accept VPNs streaming from other countries, so it’s likely Korea doesn’t either). I do know that it’s no longer possible to download Melon and purchase a pass internationally with the latest update (see below). Other streaming services it’s still possible but like I said, I’m not 100% confident your streams will count. If you would like to give it a go, here are the guides for that..
Korean Digital Support Guide: Giant @Support_SHINee Support Thread~!
Korea Melon: If you do not already have Melon, this will not be accessible anymore to international fans as of the recent 4.3.1 update. The new update requires a Korean i-PIN (think digital SSN).
** The only way to purchase Melon in the US is through an iPhone. You cannot buy a pass through Android phones.** !!
Korea Soribada: NEW Tutorial (may need to reference the Melon tutorial – same store switching process as Melon)
Korea Bugs & Genie: SHINee USA Staff has not tested yet, but should be the same as Melon/Soribada
KOREAN MUSIC CHART NOTES:
An Excerpt from our Music Chart Guide: “Korea has multiple digital streaming & purchasing services and each have a realtime chart of their own! Here is a list of the current Digital Services (each have their own individual chart): Bugs, Genie, Soribada, Olleh Music, Melon, Naver Music, Mnet music, & Monkey3. A great site that compiles all of these in realtime is Instiz iChart (updates every hour on Twitter). But the digital chart that gets recognized for year end awards is Gaon’s Digital Chart (Weekly, Monthly, & Yearly Charts). Gaon also breaks down their combined Digital Chart into Streaming & Download Charts. A prestigious thing for an artist is for a new album/ new song to debut with an “All Kill” – when an artist’s new song/album reaches #1 on ALL Korean digital charts during the first hour/day of release. The best ways for US fans to participate in these charts are: buying a pass on Melon (iPhone required to purchase), using free Genie passes (100 free stream passes are in physical albums), & buying the album on Soribada. Successfully purchasing and streaming through these services will contribute to SHINee’s wins on music shows!”
[US Digital Admin Note] What’s listed below will help Jonghyun have an international presence via US Billboard & iTunes charts. This will not reflect in any way on Korean sales. Meaning, this will not contribute to year end awards or weekly music shows. Instead, these streams/sales numbers/charts are given to SM and they report on that in their follow up posts about sales: “#1 World Album on US Billboard!” It also shows SM how large the fanbase is in the US and helps us get more content in the future (local concerts/festivals, English subs/interviews, etc.).
(Both reflect on Billboard but iTunes has its own realtime sales chart that’s easy for fans to track the progress of AND SM specifically talks about how many countries an album has #1 or Top 10 sales from for iTunes. So please choose iTunes over Google Play Music~ ** 10 song purchases = 1 album purchase – So even if you can’t afford the whole album, please buy the title track! If you want to go the extra mile, buy the title track before buying the full album! The separate sale should count on the iTunes Top Song chart – we haven’t tested this in mass yet..**)
US DIGITAL STREAMING: Stream the album on Spotify (FREE/paid), Apple Music (paid), & Google Play Music (paid) to count towards Billboard Charts~! (If you see the album on other US streaming services, please let us know~ Remember: 1,500 song streams = 1 album purchase – So stream A LOT~!)
** If you choose to purchase the whole album differently (only physical), please be sure to at least buy the title track on iTunes & stream on Spotify to show your USA support and get Jonghyun into Billboard Charts~! ^^ **
